William Martin have acted as designers and contract administrators for the refurbishment of the Shaftesbury Clinic at Springfield Hospital. This has included complete renewal of the finishes and furnishes within the patients bedrooms, including new vanity units with ‘anti-ligature’ washing facilities.
The work has also included a new patient’s kitchen (ADL) and shower and toilet facilities.
Ironmongery on doors and windows has also been replaced with new anti-ligature ironmongery.
The existing main entrance has been extended, with a new air-lock to provide a more secure entrance, and also segregate entrance for staff and visitors.
Other works include new security fencing, floodlighting, enhancement of the air conditioning system and overhaul of the central heating system.
The work has been undertaken with the unit partially occupied, which has meant special security measures, with all tools and materials being checked in at the beginning and end of each shift.
The work has also been undertaken on a NEC form of contract, which enabled early involvement of the contractor in this complex project and fixed prices subsequently being agreed for each of the works packages.
